Asonaba Writes: Nuamah’s Death; Should The Media Be Blamed?

they never did that even if they did that, to whom? To which quarters? Who did they address? Which media network published it? What assurance or promises were they given? And if the answer is yes they did; then who followed their grievances and what changed? But if the answer is no, then I will say the media should be blamed for the presidential press corps accident.
After the accident, there have been about more than ten articles written by some journalist and I have personally read many articles from some of my senior journalist concerning the Thursday presidential press accident. On Friday 21 st August, my colleague journalist Richard Kojo Nyarko wrote an article concerning the accident titled “ Following the president with rickety speed” a massage which was directed to the diaries of Ogua fisherman and in the article, the writer who is a journalist said most of the politicians whom they follow are been drove in a v8 which fears not a potholes and sometimes massage them in those potholes whilst the deplorable state of the press car even give them waist pains after work.
So my question is, what was he waiting for to voice out this issue? We must be bold as journalist!
Not him alone, on Monday 24 th August my fellow journalist Rafiq Salam who reports from the Upper West Region also wrote an article concerning the accident title “ Why I Will Never Be A Presidential Correspondent” in that article he wrote about some of the problems that presidential press go through that he has experienced before from his friends. He said some of the journalists do not even served food when they follow the president on assignments and was on the view that it is very hurting and disgusting to be a presidential correspondent.
So my question is, what was he waiting for to voice out this issue? We must be bold as journalist!
And last but not the least, Kwame Acheampong who was also an experienced presidential correspondent in his article he wrote yesterday, 25 th August titled “ Why I Left The Presidency With Glee” and reading the article, he also encountered the same problems which were not contrary to what Rafiq Salam, Kojo Nyarko and others have written about the problems they go through confirming that the treatment over there is very painful as he said even a security man at the presidency do not value the person who is going to do the major publication for the president, meanwhile without the journalist, the president’s speech will be “incommunicado”
I ask again: what was he waiting for to voice out this issue? We must be bold as journalist!
Nana Yaa Brefo, A senior Journalist who works with the Multimedia group speaking to Agoo fm (owned by EIB Network) also expressed much worries over the way and manner journalists are being handled.
But why should all these happen to such a noble profession in the country, the media should have raised the alarm right from the beginning to prevent such misfortunes. The media would have talk louder if the car was rented for the workers of “ Asonaba Company Limited” Staffs for an excursion, the media would have been angrily debate on it and even interview an expert on that matter but why can’t they do that for their own benefits. I remember the bible says “love your neighbor as yourself” it does not say “love your neighbor and hate yourself”. I believe the time has come for the media to come out with one accord irrespective of the risk that will come over their job because a worker deserves what he works for.
In other words, I, Asonaba, am very much disappointed in the Ghana Journalist Association. I believe to the extent that, this Association is doing nothing to help the media.
‘’hello Roland Affail Monney, GJA President, Please Mr. President Wake up! You are being dominant on the job. Speak up and listen to your people so that, we can fight for better condition of service. Thank you!
I am not happy as I am writing but confused and disagree with the blames venting on the officials at the presidency because we did not value ourselves right from the beginning. May god heals our dear friends who are receiving treatment from the accident and I don’t think this time, the media will allow “the short memory” to affect them and forget about their pains they are going through.
